FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Commissioning a portrait of a pet is often an entirely new experience for many people, so it’s understandable that you’d have a lot of questions. This page should provide the answers to most of your queries. If there’s anything you’d like to ask that is not listed here, please feel free to contact me. I’m always happy to help!

WHERE DOES THE COMMISSION PROCESS START?

It starts right here. If you’ve made it to this point, it means that you are ready for a new original painting, but still, have some essential questions that you need to be answered before making a decision. I’m always available for a free consultation via phone, text, or email, about what vision you have and the purpose of your new portrait piece.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

Commissioned portraits completion time depends on the complexity and scale of the painting. On average it takes me from 4 to 6 weeks to finish a painting.

After the painting is finished and has your final approval, I will let it dry for a few more days and ship it via UPS Ground Shipping.

My waiting list varies throughout the year. Please get in touch with me to find out my current availability.

CAN YOU DRAW MORE THAN ONE PET OR PERSON IN A PORTRAIT?

Yes. I have drawn many portraits featuring two or more pets or people.  Each additional pet or person will be an add 50% fee of the original sized price portrait.

DO YOU WORK FROM PHOTOS? IF SO, HOW MANY PHOTOS ARE NEEDED?

Yes, all my portraits are hand drawn from photos.

Feel free to send me photos from several different angles. This helps me to get an overall image of your pet or person.  In general, photos work best when taken at eye level with your pet or person. This avoids that odd ‘large head, small body’ perspective that you sometimes get when you take a photo looking down at the subject.

The specific pose you choose ties in closely with your person or pet’s personality.

The more detail I can see in your photos, the more realism I can work into your portrait. Make sure any photos you send me are of a high resolution and in clear focus. In particular, make sure the eyes and direction of fur can be clearly seen. Choose photos that are taken within a reasonably close distance to your pet or person. This will help to ensure your photo captures lots of detail.  If everything looks very fuzzy when you zoom in to your image, then the photo will be difficult for me to work from.

HOW DO I PAY?

You can pay through website to purchase individual custom paintings.  If you would like to purchase with me after a consult, I can create you an invoice with the payment details on. You can pay by site, venmo, cash or cash if you’re local to me. A 50% deposit secures your booking, with the rest payable on completion.

DO YOU SELL GIFT VOUCHERS?

Yes.  The voucher can be for any cash amount you would like to give. Your friend or family member can then use this voucher at any time to commission their ideal custom painting.

3

CAN I SEE A PROGRESS PHOTO OF MY COMMISSIONED PAINTING?

Yes, just let me know you’d like to see progress photos of your commission when you place your order and I will send you photos via email as I work on each layer of your painting.

4

ARE YOUR PAINTING PRE-STRETCHED?

Yes, all of my paintings are on pre-stretched canvas (not rolled). I work on both standard wrap canvases (depth of 3/4”) and gallery wrapped canvases (depth of 1.5”). I will recommend which depth would be best for your painting, depending on its size and whether there are plans to have it framed. I paint the sides of each canvas white but can paint another color upon request.
